Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips is pregnant

Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall

The Queen's granddaughter Zara and her husband Mike Tindall are expecting their first baby early next year.

The news was confirmed today by Buckingham Palace.

Zara and rugby player Mike got married in Edinburgh two years ago. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the new year."

The palace said that Zara and Mike's parents were "delighted with the news".

It will be the next royal baby to arrive after the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby, which is due this month.
