EU politicians debate whether to send weapons to Syria

  • 27 May 2013

Politicians in Europe are trying to bring an end to the fighting in Syria but are now debating whether or not to send in weapons.

Currently, a ban stopping countries in the EU from supplying weapons to Syria has meant the UK has only been able to send in non lethal equipment like vehicles and communication tools.

Fierce fighting between rebels and the government forces in the country has been going on there for more than two years.

Around 90,000 people have been killed by the conflict and almost half a million children and their families have been forced to leave Syria and seek refuge in neighbouring countries.
