Huge snow storm blankets north-east US

A huge snow storm has hit parts of north-east America and Canada.

New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts in the United States have all been blanketed by the wintry weather.

Some parts are expected to be covered with up to a metre of snow by the end of Saturday.

Weather experts have described the storm as "historic", saying it could be the worst one to hit in decades.

The bad weather has caused big problems for transport links, cancelled thousands of flights and left more than half a million homes without power.

Millions of people living in affected areas have been warned to stay inside and to stock up on food and essential supplies.
