US plane could be developed that can see through clouds

The US military want to develop aeroplanes that can 'see' through clouds.

They currently use surveillance planes to monitor enemy troops on the ground, but when it's cloudy they can't always see what's going.

So they've asked technology companies to design special sensors to pierce through heavy cloud.

If it works the infared technology would be able to get an accurate picture of what's happening below.
