Reading will be playing in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship.

The Royals beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 last night to secure their return to the top flight, after a four year absence.

Mikele Leigertwood was the hero as his late goal secured the vital win.

It finishes a remarkable run which has seen the side pick up 46 points from a possible 51.

Reading can now look forward to playing the likes of Chelsea an Manchester United next year.

But Brian McDermott's side still have two games to battle Southampton for the Championship title.

The Saints beat Peterborough 3-1, leaving them five points clear of third placed West Ham.

At the other end of the table Portsmouth kept their slim hopes of survival alive with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
