How studying panda wee helped to boost chances for a cub!

There won't be any panda cubs at Edinburgh Zoo this year, after time ran out for giant pandas Sweetie and Sunshine to mate.

Female pandas can only get pregnant within a 36-hour window, which happens just once a year.

The pair have been brought together several times during the mating season over the past two days.

They showed interest in each other and wrestled, but failed to mate successfully.

Sweetie and Sunshine (or Tian Tian and Yuan Guang in Chinese) arrived in Scotland from China in December.

Iain Valentine from the zoo said: "Baby cubs would have been a bonus this year but we have to appreciate that the pandas have only just arrived and have had limited time to settle."
