Chilean miners' rescue pod goes on display in London

  • 2 March 2012

One of the escape pods used in the rescue of 33 Chilean miners has gone on display.

In October 2010, sixty-nine days after the men became stuck 700 metres underground, a special pod was used to pull them to safety.

At just 54 centimetres wide and 13 feet tall it took an average of 15 minutes to haul each man up through the narrow tunnel in the ground.

A pod used to test the tunnel has gone on display at the Science Museum.
