We look at them most days, but how much attention do you pay to who is on your money?

The Queen and important historical figures are on the back of banknotes and the latest people to appear are Matthew Boulton and James Watt, two important people who helped to grow Britain's manufacturing industry.

They're on the new £50 note that's just been released and it's the first time two people have appeared together on a bank note.

What you might not know is that the Bank of England, who design banknotes, has a list of people who the public have nominated to be on there.

On the list are people like David Beckham, Robbie Williams, Princess Diana and Beatrix Potter.

Who would you like to see on banknotes? Do you think it should just be historical figures and the Royal Family on them?

Is there someone you think deserves to have their face on our notes?

Your comments:

"We should modernise the notes a bit showing famous British people from 2011. For example Kate Middleton, Adele, Jessie J and so on. That would be really cool."

Imaan, 11, London, England

"I think Michael Jackson because he is the best singer ever."

Ali, 8, Greater Manchester, England

"I think Boris Johnson should be on it."

Andrew, 12, Cardiff, Wales

"I think a picture of the world or map of Great Britain to show we are all one person and one huge family."

Sophia, 11, Buckinghamshire, England

"I'd put Jo Rowling on a bank note. She's the best author to have walked this earth."

Anahita, 13, Hertfordshire, England

"I think it should be Winston Churchill."

Sally, 10, Bath, England

"I think a group of children could be put on the back of a note. Children are the next generation and may be the next ones to make a big change for our country."

Belia, 13, Hampshire, England

"Roald Dahl should be on the note because he is an inspiration to us all."

Taylan, 10, Carmarthenshire, Wales

"I think that maybe they should put someone like Charles Darwin as he made such a big difference to the way we think."

Ishy, 12, Preston, England

"I think it would be really cool to have Justin Bieber on a £50 note. He is very popular and it would be way more interesting if a celebrity was on a note instead of someone from the Royal Family."

Ruth, 12, Tyrone, Northern Ireland

"I don't know who I would put on there, because it would be such an honour to be on a banknote and it is a hard decision to decide who would be worthy. If it was my choice someone like the Simpsons or an idol of mine would be on there but it would be a bit silly."

Sadie, 11, Liverpool, England

"I think Her Majesty Queen Victoria or Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth should be on there because they are/were good queens. Maybe Henry VIII should be there but he was very mean and he did marry 6 times so ..."

Safiya, 10, Gloucester, England

"I think David Beckham should be on banknotes because he is a really good professional footballer."

Claudia, 14, Jakarta, Indonesia

"I think that on banknotes there should be people who have made a big change to England for example the Suffragettes or Pudsey Bear. I know people might think Pudsey Bear is a bit silly but it is the foundation that has helped loads of kids."

Aria, 14, Kent, England

"I think that Mother Teresa should be on the note because she made a big change in the world and we should remember her for that."

Praashna, 10, London, England

"I think that Princess Diana should go on the banknotes, because she actually made a difference. Not many people recognise how important she was. Some people only disliked her because she was in the Royal Family and they were anti monarchy."

David, 12, Dorset, England

"I think it should be Martin Luther, the one who created the Protestants, it is our national religion and he needs to be recognised more."

George, 12, Coventry, England

"I think One Direction should be on banknotes because everyone (girls mostly) love them!"

Jada, 8, Belfast, Northern Ireland

"I think that the real figures of our lives should be put on the notes. People like the World War soldiers who died for their country or Winston Churchill who lead England in WW2. They were the ones who really made a difference."

Anna, 9, York, England

"I would put on the banknotes the very first person who created money."

Tammy, 12, Chester, England

"I think that people like Queen Victoria or Henry VIII should be on there because we learn so much about them at school and hear about them all the time but they are never recognised on things like bank notes or coins."

Emily, 12, Lincolnshire, England

"I think that there should be members of the Royal Family or a member of the Government like David Cameron. This is much better than say a celebrity because they are not as important as the people that make the final decisions for the country."

Aimee, 11, London, England

"I think maybe Mother Teresa or Martin Luther King should be on the notes. But maybe Kate Middleton or Prince William should be too."

Sharon, 11, West Midlands, England

"I think Princess Diana should be put on a £50 note because she helped us in some ways we might not understand. Also she was the people's person. I personally think that she is what all women want to be and I love her."

Hannah, 10, Essex, England

"I think Kate and William should be on bank notes because they are part of the Royal Family and very famous."

Gracie, 10, Preston, England

"I think a famous British film or book character should be on the bank note, like Harry Potter. It's something different and important in a different way as many people have grown up with the books and films."

Annie, 14, Edinburgh, Scotland

"Princess Diana or maybe Kate Middleton. Not a celebrity or footballer, these notes are meant to last us for a long time so why have Selena Gomez or someone like that? People could turn on her and start to not like her singles."

Jessie, 13, Whitland, Wales

"I think that someone that has made a difference to our country should be on the bank note. I don't think that bands should be on it but maybe limited edition ones with people like Elvis and Michael Jackson should be made."

Morgan, 12, Kent, England

"I think that the Queen should be on the £50 pounds notes or the Prime Minister. I think that is sensible to do that."

Hannah, 10, Woking, England

"I think it should at least be a British icon in the history of British culture."

Lawand, 11, London, England

"I think Princess Diana should go on all the notes, she really deserves it. Why popstars that did nothing for us?"

Sonarocks, 11, Lowestoft, England

"I think Jacqueline Wilson's face should be on the bank notes or One Direction."

Georgie, 10, Woking, England

"I think David Beckham or Lionel Messi should be on £50 pound notes."

Adrian, 11, Bognor Regis, England

"I think that singers and bands shouldn't be on there. Also footballers, athletes etc. Though I would like George Harrison!"

Polly, 11, London, England

"I think that the Royal Family should appear on bank notes. James Watt and Matthew Boulton are also a good idea."

Akvile, 12, London, England

Chloe, 10, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

"I think that Henry VIII's face should be on fifty pound notes, because he is a great historical figure that everyone knows and recognises."

"I would put the Simpsons family (Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie) on it or all of the Disney characters on the bank notes."

Carys, 13, Llanelli, Wales

"I think Princess Diana should be put on the £50 notes. She was a woman that was loved very much."

Saskia, 12, Ludlow, England

"I don't think there should be anyone on the bank notes, because we don't take any notice anyway."

Paige, 11, Cornwall, England

"I think that that ordinary people should have a chance, if not maybe Michael Morpurgo or Jacqueline Wilson"

Jasmine, 10, Gloucestershire, England

"I think some historical people should be on the notes that have made a true difference to our daily lives. Maybe Lord Shaftesbury or Florence Nightingale. They should also feature people who do not get very much credit for the great things they have done."

Saskia, 10, London, England

"I think Bruno Mars or Jessie J"

Hannah, 10, Norwich, England

"I think that people who are important to Britain should be on our bank notes. Celebritys should only appear in magazines, TV and newspapers."

James, 12, Basingstoke, England

"Mary Seacole should be on banknotes because she was soo amazing and needs recognition. The Suffrages, Emelline Pankhurst and Millicent Fawcett, should also be commemorated. These women shaped today unlike pop stars."

Helen, 12, Eastleigh, England

"I think the people at Bletchley Park should go on the bank notes - if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here right now. They saved this country and most people don't even know about them.

I think we should include Flowers and Alan Turing, as they built the world's first electric computer."

Daniella, 12, London, England

"I think famous bands like JLS and One Direction should be on the notes because we are more likely to recognise them!"

Hadija, 11, High Wycombe, England
