Japan quake kids call on government to reopen schools

  • 23 August 2011

Children affected by the massive Japan earthquake and tsunami have written to their government to ask for help in getting their lives back to normal.

The area of Fukushima was one of the worst affected after a nuclear plant there was damaged.

People living nearby were forced to leave their homes.

Five months on, many schools there are still closed, while officials make sure that they are safe from radiation.

Teams of cleaners have been sent in to spray the buildings with a special decontamination liquid.

In loads of areas it's still not safe to play outside, so kids have to spend much of their time indoors.

They want the government to know that they've had enough and need their help.
