Rita Manning looks at a picture of her deceased husband

Dying wishes

Last year, Rita Manning's terminally ill husband passed away in the comfort of his own home. His ability to choose where he died was only possible thanks to the medical support the couple were given during his final weeks.

Health charities here say an increasing number of people want to die at home but there are not enough specially trained nurses to care for them.

That has been acknowledged by the Health Minister who has announced a new strategy to give terminally ill patients the opportunity to choose where they would prefer to die.

Our Health Correspondent Marie-Louise Connolly has the details.
