Fuel Saving TipsSource: Advanced Motorists of Northern Ireland Reduce Speed: slowing from 85mph to 70mph will not only save you penalty points but also save you half an litre of fuel every ten miles. Avoid Congestion: cars that avoid the inner city crawl save half a litre of petrol every 10 miles. Even a small car stuck in a jam will use a litre of fuel every 60 minutes. Lighten the load: Removing excess baggage like golf clubs can reduce fuel consumption by 2.5%. A roof rack or luggage box can add 2.5% to your fuel bill. Remove them when not in use. Tyre Pressure: under inflated tyres can add 2.5% to fuel consumption Air Conditioning: keeping it on all the time wastes fuel. At 30 mph it adds at least 12 pence to fuel costs every ten miles Servicing: dirty air filters and worn spark plugs will increase fuel consumption significantly. Driving style: advanced driving techniques can save fuel.
