Will.i.am has confirmed he will be on The Voice UK when it returns for its sixth series.

But, for the first time, the show will be broadcast on ITV.

Series one to five were aired on the BBC, with Will.i.am appearing on each as a judge.

In a statement confirming his return, he said: "I know The Voice switched to ITV, but I'm not going to Brexit The Voice UK."

He has said he will also appear on new spin-off show, The Voice Kids.

"I'm delighted to be continuing The Voice UK on ITV and being a voice of direction and guidance for the usual suspects," said Will.

On the move away from the BBC he added: "I'm happy to make ITV my home now. I love the UK."

Will is the first judge to confirm his return to the show.

He was joined on the judging panel in the most recent series by Paloma Faith, Boy George and Ricky Wilson of The Kaiser Chiefs.

The 2016 series had a weekly average of 6.49 million viewers.

"We are thrilled to bits that Will.i.am's signed up to ITV for The Voice UK and The Voice Kids," says Siobhan Greene, head of entertainment at ITV.

"He's such an important part of the DNA of the show and that was one of the many reasons we had to have him in his chair.

"Will's eye for talent, and unique and creative flair for mentoring means we can't wait to see what happens next."

Will.i.am won the show in 2014 when his contestant Jermain Jackman beat Jamie Johnson to take the title.

Since winning the show, Jackman has released an EP, an album and appeared on an episode of CBBC's The Dog Ate My Homework.
