Glastonbury wants you to vote by post in EU referendum

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis is encouraging people who've bought tickets to makes plans to vote by post in the EU referendum.

The vote on whether the UK should leave or stay in the European Union will take place at the same time as Glastonbury.

Glastonbury Festival 2016 in on from 22 to 26 June.

The EU referendum takes place on 23 June, when most ticket-holders will already have arrived at the festival site.

The electoral commission has confirmed that there will be nowhere to cast your vote at Glastonbury festival as you must vote in the constituency you're registered in.

In an article for the Guardian Emily said "That certainly does not mean that the people coming can't - or shouldn't - vote on 23 June.

"The day that the referendum date was announced, we began our campaign to encourage everyone coming to the festival to register for either a postal vote (which is what I've done) or a proxy vote (where you nominate someone to do it for you)."

She says they're e-mailing every ticket-holder details on how to vote.

Emily says she's responding to concerns from people worried they won't be able to vote.

"We weren't too surprised when ticketholders began to get in touch with us about the referendum, long before the date had even been announced. "

She says making sure people can vote is consistent with the festival's ethos.

"At Glastonbury we are very proud of our long history of engaging our audience in politics and activism

"Registering to vote and then registering for your postal or proxy vote isn't complicated or time-consuming. And this is a decision that really will affect the lives of everyone in the UK. It would, frankly, be a bit daft not to have your say."
