Twitter's 'favourite' stars change into 'like' hearts

Twitter hearts will replace stars

Twitter has changed the way it looks when you "favourite" a post - so you'll soon be seeing hearts instead of stars.

Hitting the heart button will now be classed as a "like" in the style of Facebook.

The changes are being rolled out today for most users online and on the app, as well as Tweetdeck and Vine on Android.

You'll also see them soon on Vine for iOS and Twitter for Mac.

The social site says it's to make Twitter easier and "more rewarding to use," adding that "at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers".

'You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favourite'

The heart, which is already a main feature of rival Instagram and live-streaming app Periscope, "is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones," the company says.

Twitter says that in tests they found that people "loved" the heart - which is why the star is being ditched so swiftly.

"The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people," their statement adds.
