X-Men: Apocalypse will feature Marvel mutant Caliban

X-Men: Apocalypse is still a year away, but Marvel fans have been given a reason - if they needed one - to start speculating over the finer details of the film.

Their excuse? Director Bryan Singer has revealed that mutant-tracker Caliban will appear in the movie.

He announced the inclusion of the character in a behind-the-scenes picture on Instagram.

Next to the image he wrote: "Shooting Caliban's place of 'business'."

The announcement started a discussion between Singer's followers that Caliban's involvement might mean the director has plans to include a community of mutant outcasts called Morlocks.

One wrote: "Hell yeah, hopefully we see some Morlocks in action!"

Another simply wrote: "MORLOCKS!!!!"

Caliban first appeared in Marvel comics in 1981 and later as various reincarnations Pestilence, Death and Hellhound.

It's not yet clear if Morlocks will appear or who will play Caliban in the film, which will feature Nicholas Hoult, Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner and Jennifer Lawrence.

The Hunger Games star recently announced that this will be her last X-Men film.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be the eighth in the comic book series and the fourth directed by Singer.

Last year, the director's role was in doubt when he was accused of sexual assault but the case was dropped in August.
