Cole tells Radio 1 she's 'glad' her wedding secret's out

Cheryl Cole has told Radio 1 listeners she would have preferred to keep her new marriage under wraps.

The 31-year-old married French restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in a small private ceremony earlier this month.

A week later she revealed the news on her website in order to, as she put it, "stop the speculation" about her private life.

She will return as a judge on The X Factor this year.

While co-hosting Greg James' show on Radio 1 on Thursday, she said: "I would have actually kept it [secret] but unfortunately it was leaked.

"But I'm glad it's out there."

The couple married on a beach in Mustique in front of a handful of guests.

It's believed they were dating for a few months.

The singer was previously married to footballer Ashley Cole but they divorced in 2010 after four years.

Her latest song, Crazy Stupid Love, is in the running to top the Official Singles Chart this weekend.

Cole, who's now known as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, said her recent break from making music had given her the opportunity to "recharge".

Earlier this week some of her former Girls Aloud bandmates joined her for a party in central London to celebrate her wedding.

However, she told Greg James that a typical day involved "sitting in my pyjamas, watching TV and flicking through the channels".
