Thousands of rock fans are gearing up to watch three days of music at this year's Download Festival.

Avenged Sevenfold (Friday) and Linkin Park (Saturday) are this year's headliners with Aerosmith rounding off the weekend on Sunday night.

The festival takes place at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

Other acts appearing include The Pretty Reckless, Alter Bridge, Fall Out Boy, Steel Panther, Trivium, While She Sleeps and Rob Zombie.

Avenged Sevenfold's sixth studio album, Hail To The King, earned the band their first number one in the UK when it was released last August.

Linkin Park's six album, The Hunting Party, is being released to coincide with Download.

The band is made up of Chester Bennington, Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda.

They've sold around 60 million albums and won two Grammy Awards with Prince William among their famous fans.

Other acts performing include Twister Sister, Bowling for Soup, The Offspring, Bury Tomorrow and Rival Sons.

Download Festival has named its main stage after teenage cancer fundraiser Stephen Sutton this year.

The 19-year-old, from Staffordshire, died last month after helping to raise almost £4m for charity.

He attended last year's Download Festival, one of the things that was on his bucket list.

The weather this year is due to be mostly dry and sunny, according to BBC Weather.

England also play Italy on Saturday night at 23:00 BST at the World Cup in Brazil.

Organisers say the match is being shown live on the Zippo Encore stage.

Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein headlined Download in 2013.
