Ninjago, the Lego Movie spin-off, gets release date
Ninjago, a Lego Movie spin-off based on the range of ninja-themed toys and building sets, has been given a release date.
According to Variety, the film will hit cinemas on 23 September 2016.
Charlie Bean is expected to direct the movie, with Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who all worked on the Lego Movie, producing.
A televisions series called Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu has already been adapted for Cartoon Network.
A sequel to the Lego Movie has already been announced and is expected for release in May 2017.
The Lego Movie was released earlier this year and was the first major blockbuster of 2014, grossing $461m (£274m) worldwide.
It spent a number of weeks at the top of the box office charts in both the UK and the US.
Earlier this year the Danish toymaker's profits rose 9% to 6.12 bn kroner ($1.12bn; £673m) in 2013 as the firm expanded beyond its signature building blocks.
This figure did not take into account the money made by the film.
Lego is the world's second largest toymaker, behind Mattel, the maker of Barbie.
