Robin Thicke and Paula Patton announce they will split
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have announced that they are separating.
A representative for the actress has confirmed that the couple are ending their nine year marriage.
The 36-year-old Blurred Lines singer and Patton, 38, first met when they were teenagers before getting married in 2005.
The couple have one child together, their son Julian Fuego Thicke, who was born in April 2010.
In a statement released to People Magazine the couple said: "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."
Thicke's hit single, which also featured Pharrell Williams and rapper TI, spent five weeks at number one in the UK single chart last year and was the best selling single of 2013.
However, critics claim Blurred Lines refers to non-consensual sex in some of the song's lyrics and the track was banned by a number of UK Universities.
Thicke said suggestions that the song referred to rape were "ridiculous".
In an interview with Newsbeat last year, the singer said Blurred Lines was written about Patton.
Referring to lyrics in the song he said: "It was written about my wife. She's my good girl."
Paula Patton has appeared in films including Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Idlewild and Precious.
The actress has also appeared in Thicke's music videos, including Lost Without U and Love After War.
