Katy Perry and Arctic Monkeys are the first acts to be announced for the Brit Awards 2014 line-up.

It's also been confirmed that James Corden will return as host for the fifth and final time, making him the longest-serving Brits presenter.

"I really love the Brits. I'm such a fan," he said. "I'll miss not doing it after this one but fully intend to enjoy every second of Brits 2014."

Next year's Brits will take place on 19 February at London's O2 Arena.

Arctic Monkeys

It's the first time Arctic Monkeys have featured on the line-up for the event.

Since releasing their debut album, 2006's Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, they have been nominated for 11 Brits and won four.

Their most recent record, AM, is the band's fifth consecutive number one album.

The 2014 Brit Awards will also be Katy Perry's first performance at the show.

Perry won the international female solo artist prize in 2009 and has received four Brit nominations to date.

The singer said: "It's an honour to play at such a prestigious event where musicality shines at its brightest."

Last year saw Ben Howard and Emeli Sande both take home two awards and performances from Justin Timberlake and Sir Elton John, who was given the first ever Brits icon award.

Speaking about 2014, Brits Chairman Christian Tattersfield said: "We are extremely ambitious for the 2014 show, showcasing global superstars and celebrating the incredible success of British music.

"We are going to pull out all the stops to make this the biggest and most exciting Brits ever."

Next year's Brit statue has been designed by hat designer Philip Treacy.

"My inspiration for the trophy comes from a uniquely British genre of music, punk," he said.

Damien Hirst designed the 2013 Brit Award.

Tickets for the Brit Awards 2014 go on sale at 10am on 28 November.
