Avenged Sevenfold announced as Download headliners
Avenged Sevenfold have been announced as the first headline act for Download Festival 2014.
Their show at the event next June will mark the band's first headline slot at any UK festival.
American musician, director and actor Rob Zombie has been named as the main support act for the opening night of the event.
Next year's Download will be held 13-15 June 2014 in Donington Park, Leicestershire.
Now in its 12th year, the event has become one of the most well-known rock festivals in Europe.
Avenged Sevenfold's sixth studio album, Hail To The King, earned the band their first number one in the UK when it was released in August.
The band tweeted that they were "proud and excited" to be playing at Download.
Rob Zombie performed on the second stage at the festival in 2011 and will be playing on the main stage next year.
His fifth album, Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, was released earlier this year.
The 48-year-old directed, produced and wrote a remake of 1970s horror film Halloween and has directed an episode of CSI: Miami.
This year's Download was headlined by Iron Maiden, Slipknot and Rammstein.
The other headliners for next year's event will be announced over the rest of this week.
Early bird tickets for Download 2014 are on sale until 9am on 8 November.
