One Direction announce world tour for 2014

Boy band One Direction have announced their first worldwide stadium tour for 2014.

The Where We Are tour will kick off in the US next April before heading to the UK and Ireland next May.

The five boys are currently on their Take Me Home tour, which is about to begin its American leg.

They've also revealed there will be new music to accompany the new tour. There will be more dates on the tour announced at a later date.

The band invited journalists from around the world for the #1DBigAnnouncement at Wembley Stadium in London.

One Direction say there will be a new album as well.

Liam Payne said: ''We've written a lot of the songs which is nicer and it will be more edgier and grow as we grow.''

The first leg of the tour will see the What Makes You Beautiful singers visit Latin America, opening in Colombia on 25 April.

Harry Styles said: "It feels crazy to be announcing this in the first place - every time we walk into one of these places (Wembley), we think it's absolutely huge.

"The concept of doing a gig in a place like Wembley is incredible. We're very excited."

The tour dates are as follows:

Dublin, Croke Park - 24 May

Sunderland, Stadium of Light - 28

Manchester, Etihad Stadium - 31

Edinburgh, Murrayfield - 3 June

London, Wembley Stadium - 7

Tickets for the UK and Ireland dates will go on sale on 25 May.
