Game of Thrones fourth series confirmed by HBO

Jack Gleeson plays King Joffery Baratheon

Fantasy drama Game of Thrones will return for a fourth season in 2014.

The announcement from US network HBO comes days after series three premiered in America and the UK.

In Britain more than 700,000 people tuned in to Sky Atlantic to see the show. The episode is also believed to be the most pirated single show in TV history.

HBO announced the new series on Twitter with the words "Game of Thrones renewed for season 4 with fire & blood".

It's thought the fourth season will cover the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in George R.R. Martin's series.

The final two books in the series have yet to be written.
