Kimberley Walsh signs debut solo album deal for 2013
Kimberley Walsh has signed a deal to release her first solo album, which will feature songs from musicals.
The Girls Aloud singer has already starred in London's West End as Princess Fiona in Shrek the musical.
Her new album, Centre Stage, will include the song One Day I'll Fly Away from Moulin Rouge.
"I really wanted to share the love I have for musical theatre by taking some classic songs and completely reinventing them," she said.
"I loved every minute of recording this album. I really felt like I was going back to my roots."
The singer is competing in BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing, where she is partnered with Pasha Kovalev and is one of the favourites to win.
She and the rest of Girls Aloud have also announced an arena tour, along with new material and a greatest hits album to accompany their 10th anniversary.
The album is due to be released in early 2013, a couple of weeks before she joins the band to begin the Girls Aloud tour on 21 February.
"There's a lot going on right now but I am loving every minute and can't wait for people to hear these songs I've recorded," she said.
Kimberley Walsh started recording the album this summer working in Stockholm, Sweden.
Centre Stage will be released on 4 February 2013.
