Lucy Liu joins American Sherlock cast as female Watson
Actress Lucy Liu has joined the cast of the CBS show Elementary, which is a Sherlock Holmes TV remake, in America.
The 43-year-old will star in the pilot as Joan Watson, Sherlock's side-kick, which has been traditionally played by men. Watson will live with Sherlock in New York.
If the pilot is picked up, a series will be made and aired in the autumn.
British star Jonny Lee Miller has taken the lead as the legendary sleuth Sherlock.
The detective series will be based in a modern day New York, and there is no more information about which of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories the show will tackle.
The show is being written and executive produced by Robert Doherty. Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also be executive producers.
The UK version, which is called Sherlock will return for a third series and will star Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, with Martin Freeman as his side kick, John Watson.
Last year, Miller appeared on stage with Cumberbatch, in the National Theatre's Frankenstein.
