Madonna's new album due in spring, she tells Swedish TV

Madonna has revealed that she plans to release her 12th studio album in "spring 2012".

Speaking in Venice, where the movie she directed W.E was being premiered, the singer said she had already done "a little bit of work" on the album.

She added that following the release of the film she will return to New York where she will be recording "until the end of the year".

Her last album Hard Candy was released in 2008.

The 53-year-old told Swedish television network Sveriges Television that the first single for the album will be released in February or March 2012.

It will be her first album since parting ways with record label Warner Brothers.

She has now signed a new deal with entertainment firm Live Nation.
