Christina Aguilera files for divorce from Jordan Bratman
Pop singer Christina Aguilera has filed for divorce from music executive husband Jordan Bratman, citing irreconcilable differences.
She announced their separation on Tuesday (12 October) after nearly five years of marriage.
The pair met in 2002 on the set of her video for Dirrty and have one son, Max.
In a statement Aguilera said: "Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever."
Court documents show the couple had a prenuptial agreement, although the singer wants rights to all her earnings.
The couple announced their engagement in February 2005 and married nine months after that.
Christina Aguilera, 29, is seeking joint custody of the couple's two-year-old son, who was born in January 2008.
The New York singer released her fourth studio album, Bionic, in June after a four-year break from music.
Lead single Not Myself Tonight made it to number 12 in the singles chart.
