Jamie T has premiered his first new material in almost five years and has confirmed plans to release a new album later this year.

Don't You Find was played for the first time by Zane Lowe on Radio 1 during his show on Tuesday evening.

When asked why he chose the downbeat track to be the lead single, the singer said: "I quite like the melancholy of it, it's the reason I put it out first.

"Otherwise it might get lost in album cycles and I wanted people to hear it."

Don't You Find is noticeably more sombre than tracks like Sticks and Stones and Chaka Demus, which were the first releases from the Londoner's 2009 album Kings and Queens.

"I thought it was kind of different and a nice track," explained Jamie, whose real name is Jamie Treays.

"I've spent a lot of time over the last few years working on songs and trying to get power out of songs rather than relying on tempo to kind of get aggression out.

"I was really happy with the results on that occasion."

Jamie T letter

The singer recently announced his live return with a handwritten note.

The message said he had "decided it might be time to play a few shows" and announced shows in Glasgow, Liverpool and Portsmouth.

A show at London's Tufnell Park Dome was added later in the week. All of the four dates are now sold out.

Jamie added that he's put a new band together for the shows and that he was "pretty nervous" about making a live return.

"It feels like quite a long time since we kind of did anything live and I've kind of forgotten how to play everything," he said.

"It's still kind of sinking in to be honest but I'm looking forward to it."

The dates for Jamie T's UK tour are as follows:

Glasgow, Glasgow Art School - 29 (July)

Liverpool Kazimier - 30

Portsmouth, Wedgewood Rooms - 31

London, Tufnell Park Dome - 7 (August)
