The Director and writer for This Is England, Shane Meadows, says the next instalment will be the best yet.

He revealed that the latest series, This is England 90, will begin shooting later this year.

The show will follow on from This Is England '86 in 2010 and This Is England '88 in 2011.

It originally started life as a film, This is England, released in 2006, and many of the original cast members are attached to the new series.

The show follows the story of the coming of age of 13-year-old Shaun, a lonely boy welcomed into a gang of skinheads.

Speaking at last week's NME Awards Shane Meadows admitted that he'd not yet finished writing the script but said he's really excited about the project.

"The stories that we've got lined up for this one I think could top it all," he said.

Previous series screened on Channel 4 helped launch the career of Thomas Turgoose, the young first-time actor playing the troubled teenager Shaun, who went on to win best newcomer prizes from Empire magazine and the British Independent Film Awards.

The series also stars Vicky McClure and Joseph Gilgun from E4 drama Misfits. Meadows says the original cast will be returning but doesn't reveal too much about the storyline saying: "there'll be a lot of births, deaths and marriages."

The original movie won Best British Film at the 2007 BAFTA Film awards and the 88' TV series won Best Mini Series at the 2012 BAFTA Television Awards. Meadows puts the success down to the uniqueness of mini-serials;

"You look at Sherlock, because you only get three maybe four and you have to wait a year for them, somehow it feels more special than these big sort of 12 part series."
