The Wanted say they are taking a break after their latest tour has finished "to pursue personal endeavours".
The boy band, who released their self-titled debut album in 2010, released a statement on their website.
It said: "[The band] have decided to take time to pursue personal endeavours following the tour's conclusion.
"They want to stress to their fans that they will continue as The Wanted and look forward to many successful projects together in the future."
It continued: "They thank their fans for their continued love and support and look forward to seeing them on tour."
The Wanted - made up of Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes - released their third studio album, Word of Mouth, in November.
They'll visit 13 cities on their Word of Mouth tour, which starts at Liverpool's Echo Arena on 14 March.
They visit venues across Europe next month before travelling to North America in May.
The Wanted also announced the release of their new video and single Glow In The Dark.
In November band member Tom Parker said the group was worried about sustaining their success.
"I think for any band, I think it's very difficult to always sustain a certain level," he said.
"I think when we came in with a number one single (All Time Low), you set a precedent then to stay at number one.
"And when you don't stay at number one, the critics are like 'Well, that's the fall of The Wanted'. Mmmm, it's not really. It's just very difficult to stay there. Do you know what I mean, and it is."
The Wanted have had two number ones on the Official Singles Chart with 2010's All Time Low and 2011's Glad You Came.
Singer Max George famously dated Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, while Kaneswaran recently announced he is to marry his girlfriend of six years Nareesha McCaffrey.
Sykes had a spell out of the group last year as a result of a throat operation which had threatened to wreck his singing voice, but he rejoined the line-up within two months.
