Cycle victim's sister: Normal life is on hold

21 January 2014 Last updated at 06:49 GMT

Ryan Smith suffered a serious brain injury when he was knocked off his bicycle last year.

His family, who are from Skegness, say he wasn't wearing a helmet because he didn't want to mess up his hair.

After four months in a coma, Ryan is now at The Children's Trust in Tadworth, Surrey, has taken his first steps and has started communicating again.

His sister Rachael, 21, has postponed her training as a nail technician to care for him.

She tells Newsbeat reporter Rick Kelsey what life is like for the family since the accident.
