Emeli Sande's debut album, Our Version of Events, has broken through the two million sales barrier.

The album was the biggest-selling album of 2012 and is the best-selling of this year so far.

Earlier this year, it broke the Beatles' long-standing Please Please Me chart record by spending 66 consecutive weeks in the top 10 on the Official Album Chart.

Our Version of Events was released in February last year.

The singer, 26, was a surprise guest at 1Xtra Live in London earlier this month and her single Next To me was covered by Jahmene Douglas at this year's Mobo Awards.

The album spent 10 weeks at number one and during the 88 weeks Our Version Of Events has spent in the chart, it has never dropped below number 29.

Earlier this year, The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) confirmed Adele's 21 was the biggest-selling album in the world for the second year running.

Figures from the BPI also showed UK acts gained 13.3% of worldwide sales in 2012, up from 12.6% the previous year.

Sande has had five top 10 singles in the Official Singles Chart from Our Version Of Events including Heaven and Clown.

The singer has also had two number ones as a featured artist.

The first was on Professor Green's version of Read All About It in November 2011 and the other was on Labrinth's Beneath Your Beautiful last year.

She also features on UK producer Naughty Boy's latest single Lifted.
