Tributes paid to Cory Monteith after actor found dead

Friends and co-stars of Cory Monteith have been paying tribute to the Glee actor who was found dead on Saturday.

The 31-year-old, who played Finn Hudson in the hit US TV show, was discovered at a hotel in Vancouver after failing to check out on time.

Police in Canada say the cause of his death is not yet known but have ruled out foul play.

Officers have interviewed a number of people but believe he was alone at the time he died.

Glee co-stars have expressed their shock at his death, with many taking to Twitter.

Damian McGinty, who played Rory Flannigan, wrote: "The guy I shot my first acting scene with. The nicest guy I've met. Can't believe it."

'Totally heartbroken'

Lauren Potter, who starred in the show as Becky Jackson, posted: "I am totally heartbroken right now. I love Cory so much this hurts my heart."

Cory Monteith had appeared in the musical comedy since it began in 2009.

He missed the final episodes of the fourth series earlier this year after voluntarily checking into rehab for substance abuse.

The actor had been open about his battle against addiction and was treated for drug abuse aged 19.

The producers of Glee, Fox, posted a series of tweets offering its thoughts and prayers to their actor's family.

"Cory was an exceptional talent," said a statement.

"He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously."

'One amazing man'

Dot-Marie Jones, who plays an American football coach at Glee's William McKinley High, tweeted: "Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever."

One Direction's Niall Horan also posted a message: "RIP cory ! Didn't know him personally! Met him on a couple of occasions! Super nice guy! "

A number of stars have also sent messages to Cory's girlfriend Lea Michele who also appears in Glee.

Demi Lovato tweeted: "#RIPCoryMonteith… So unbelievably tragic. Please #prayforLea."

While Kim Kardashian wrote: "So sad. Prayers 4 his family. Praying 4 Lea too! Words cant describe what they must be feeling."

Coroners in Canada have said an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
