The director of the horror film Evil Dead has defended it after comments on social networking sites suggested that Hollywood should stop remaking classic movies.

Fede Alvarez says people are against "bad movies" and not remakes of classics and that the team is already writing a script for a sequel to the movie.

The original Evil Dead film came out in 1981, with sequels in 1987 and 1992.

Evil Dead is in cinemas from Thursday.
