For the first time figures to show the scale of false rape claims in England and Wales have been released.

The statistics were given to Newsbeat by the Crown Prosecution Service.

They show two people a month are being prosecuted for making a fake claim, and wasting police time.

We've been speaking to the head of the CPS, Keir Starmer QC, about the problem.

He says over a 17 month period, 35 people were charged but that the number is small compared to actual prosecutions for rape.
