Superintendent Helen Chamberlain on issue of false rape

13 March 2013 Last updated at 06:31 GMT

For the first time figures to show the scale of false rape claims in England and Wales have been released.

The statistics were given to Newsbeat by the Crown Prosecution Service.

They show two people a month are being prosecuted for making a fake claim, and wasting police time.

The CPS says over a 17 month period 35 people were charged, but that the number is small compared to actual prosecutions for rape.

We've been speaking to Superintendent Helen Chamberlain, who's in charge of the officers who investigate rape claims in Nottinghamshire.
