Eddie Redmayne says that preparing for musical Les Miserables was a pretty gruelling experience but that he had a far easier time on set than his co-stars Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman.

The film is adapted from the long-running stage musical, which is based on Victor Hugo's epic French novel set in 19th Century France.

Les Miserables is nominated for nine awards at this year's Baftas.

The actor was speaking to Newsbeat's entertainment reporter Natalie Jamieson.

Les Miserables is released in the UK on 11 January.
