A photographer has been killed after being hit by a vehicle while taking pictures of Justin Bieber's sports car.
Police say the paparazzo died in hospital on Tuesday (1 January) evening.
Police officer James Stoughton confirmed that the singer was not in his car at the time of the crash on Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles.
He also says that no charges are likely to be filed against the motorist who hit the photographer.
He did not reveal the identity of the man who had died.
Justin Bieber's white Ferrari was parked after a traffic stop and the photographer was hit as he walked across the boulevard after taking pictures.
Police in Los Angeles examine the scene of the crash
In a statement the singer said: "While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.
"Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."
