LA Reid is leaving the US version of the X Factor after next week's final in LA.

The music mogul joined the show last year along with creator Simon Cowell.

The other judges are Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, who replaced Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

There's been no announcement yet on who will replace LA Reid. The second series of the programme, which is shown on ITV2, has suffered from lower viewing figures.

In the UK ratings are down on recent years.

Simon Cowell confirmed in October that X Factor USA would be returning for a third series.

LA Reid joined the show after leaving his job as boss of Island Def Jam, where he helped launch the careers of Mariah Carey, Usher, Rihanna, Kanye West and Jay-Z.

He is currently chairman of Epic Records, the Sony-owned label which will sign the winners of X Factor USA.
