Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is Yahoo's most-searched person of 2012 and its third most popular search term overall.
Kate Middleton, Lindsay Lohan, Whitney Houston and Jennifer Lopez also feature in the top 10.
Kim Kardashian's divorce and her relationship with Kanye West helped her popularity, said a Yahoo! expert.
Overall, US election was the most popular phrase put into its search box during 2012 and iPhone 5 the second.
The row over topless paparazzi photos of the Duchess of Cambridge is thought to be partly responsible for her appearance at number five.
US swimwear model Kate Upton is at number four, meaning six women feature in the top 10 but no men.
Olympics also makes an appearance in the list coming in at number seven.
Kim Kardashian also scored the third most popular search term in 2011, a year when iPhone was the most popular term.
Other popular searches in 2012, appearing on Yahoo's obsession list, are The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades of Grey, Call Me Maybe and Gangnam Style.
