The Inbetweeners US cast

The US version of The Inbetweeners won't be coming back for a second run, MTV in America has confirmed.

The show debuted in August with a homegrown cast and Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, creators of the UK version, the executive producers.

However, viewing figures for the series were low and it will not be returning.

A spokesperson said the channel had "enjoyed working with the show's creators and such a talented, funny cast".

The US show starred Joey Pollari as Will McKenzie, Bubba Lewis (Simon Cooper), Zack Pearlman (Jay Cartwright), Mark L. Young (Neil Sutherland) and Alex Frnka (Carly D'Amato).

Twelve episodes of the show were broadcast, with the last one going out in America on 5 November.

The series was adapted by US writer Brad Copeland, who's also worked on Arrested Development and My Name is Earl.

MTV had previously said it was planning to show the series on its worldwide channels from January 2013.

The original UK version of The Inbetweeners ended in 2010, and while another series isn't planned, a follow-up to the hit film is in the works.
