Taylor Swift has scored the biggest first week sales for an album in 10 years in the US.
The 22-year-old country/pop singer's fourth album Red sold 1.21 million copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
That's the biggest first week sales for an album since Eminem's The Eminem Show in 2002.
Swift also becomes the first woman to have two million-selling first week albums since modern US chart data started being collected.
Chart recordRed is the 18th album to score more than a million sales in its first week since Nielsen Soundscan began tracking sales in 1991.
The record for the biggest first week sales is still held by boy band 'N Sync for their 2000 album No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4m in 2000.
Taylor Swift sold 1.2 million copies of Red in its first week in the US
Red is currently number one in the UK's official album chart.
In the US Swift's album was sold in some unusual outlets including in a chain of coffee shops and a takeaway pizza company.
Her partnership with Papa John's reportedly led to 8,000 of the total sales of the album.
The release wasn't made available on some streaming services such as Spotify, Rhapsody and Deezer.
Unlike Lady Gaga's Born This Way it also wasn't sold at a discount price in its first week.
Red includes a duet with British star Ed Sheeran called Everything Has Changed.
Earlier this week it was announced he would support Swift on her 58-date north American tour in 2013.
In August Taylor Swift's single We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together set a US record for the most downloads of a song performed by a female artist.
