Lindsay Lohan has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and causing injury.

New York police said the actress clipped a pedestrian in her car during the early hours of Wednesday morning after leaving a Manhattan nightclub.

Police said that the 26-year-old was driving slowly through an alleyway when she hit a man, but that no alcohol was involved.

A 34-year-old was treated in hospital for a knee injury and later released.

Lindsay Lohan was released by police but will have to appear in court to answer the charges at a later date.

Her spokesperson has declined to comment.
