Ed Sheeran The 21-year-old says he's playing with some of the members of Pink Floyd

Ed Sheeran has said he's playing at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.

The singer told a Australian radio station that he would be performing with Pink Floyd, however the band has issued a statement denying the claim.

The 21-year-old told Nova: "I'm doing a song with Pink Floyd. I'm doing Wish You Were Here."

The closing ceremony takes place on 12 August at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

A Pink Floyd statement on Thursday said: "In response to press speculation, Pink Floyd state that the band is NOT performing at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games."

Ed Sheeran had originally said that his performance wouldn't feature the full line-up of the classic rock group, only confirming that drummer Nick Mason would be involved.

The singer has so far not responded to the band's statement.

Others acts for the show, called A Symphony of British Music, haven't been officially revealed and organisers are keen to keep the precise details under wraps.

However creative director Kim Gavin has said it will feature established British acts and new talent.

The athletes who have been competing at the Olympics will once again be part of the show, as will more than 4,000 performers - most of them volunteers.
