One of the UK's largest karaoke and backing track production companies say shows like The Voice and The X Factor have fuelled a surge in popularity of their renditions.

David Green is the owner of a covers company based in Cheshire.

He said when John Legend's Ordinary People was performed by contestant Jaz Ellington during the first series of the BBC One show people were buying their backing track version "within seconds".

He said in the past the company has recorded a version of a song and had it on sale through digital music stores the next day.

Newsbeat's music reporter Greg Cochrane went to meet them as they recorded an instrumental version of Ed Sheeran's Small Bump.
