Muse Muse took part in the Olympic torch relay in May

A new track from Muse has been selected to be the official song of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Devon rock band said the song was written with the Olympics in mind, adding it's about "pure determination to win".

Last month the trio took part in the Olympic torch relay through their home town of Teignmouth, Devon.

The song will get its world premiere on BBC Radio 1 tonight (27 June) at 7pm.

A statement on the band's website said they were "honoured" that the track would be played throughout the Olympic Games.

"When athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and also as the theme for all international TV coverage," it said.

As previously reported the band are set to release their sixth studio album, called The 2nd Law, in September.

They have also announced details of a UK arena tour starting in October.
