Dave Okumu, lead singer with London band The Invisible, is in hospital after suffering "a life-threatening" electric shock on stage.
It happened while the trio were performing a show in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday 17 May.
The band, nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2009, said all forthcoming engagements had been cancelled.
In a statement they said: "We would like to thank everyone for their support and kind wishes."
The British Council Nigeria confirmed the news on their Twitter account saying that Okumu was due to return to the UK on 18 May.
Okumu has tweeted today, he wrote: "Thanks for all kind words. This has been one of the worst experiences but, as my mother taught me, it is possible to transcend all things with love."
In the past, as part of The Invisible and other musical projects, the band have performed with Adele, Hot Chip and Polar Bear.
Okumu has also been on the judging panel for the Mercury Prize.
The Invisible will still release their second album Rispah on 11 June.
