In their first UK broadcast interview, American band One Direction have told Newsbeat they won't be intimidated by Simon Cowell as they sue him for over their name.

Lead singer Sean O'Leary and his group are seeking more than $1million (£630,000) in damages from Syco and Sony Music over claims of trademark infringement.

They also want a share of the UK band's profits.

Simon Cowell's Syco label told Newsbeat that it had tried to reach an "amicable decision".

Speaking via Skype, 18-year-old Sean and bassist Scott Nagereda said they refused to be intimidated by the music mogul and his management.
