A film about Radio 1's Big Weekend event in Carlisle is to return to the town for its premiere.

Scott Mills will broadcast his show live from the University of Cumbria on Wednesday, before the film gets its debut there at 7pm.

The movie mixes fans' footage with video of the DJs and stars who were at the event.

Big Weekend, which took place in May, saw the likes of Lady Gaga and Foo Fighters perform at Carlisle Airport.

Listeners in Carlisle have the chance to get tickets for the screening by listening to Scott Mills' show from 4-7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday [6 and 7 December].

The premiere takes place at the University of Cumbria's Stanwix Arts Theatre.

Those without tickets will also be able to watch live by going to the Radio 1 website at 7pm.

Scott Mills asked fans to record what they did on 14 and 15 May - whether they were at the event or not - and the best bits will feature in the final film.

There will also be plenty of action from stars such as Plan B, Olly Murs, Black Eyed Peas and Jessie J.

As well as filming themselves, Radio 1 listeners also helped with creating music, making animations and designing posters for the film.

English actor and director Noel Clarke and the creators of the TV shows Spooks and Hustle will also be visiting the university where they'll be getting involved with a workshop for the TV and film students.

Big Weekend saw 40,000 people - most from the Cumbria area - enjoy two days of free music at Carlisle Airport.

Next year, Radio 1 is staging its biggest ever live event.

The Hackney Weekend in east London will coincide with the Olympics and feature more top music stars, with free tickets for 100,000 people.

Watch a trailer for the movie on the Radio 1 website.
