Top box office films in the UK are now being illegally downloaded 30% more than in 2006.

That's according to new figures seen exclusively by Newsbeat which suggest there were 1.4 million illegal downloads last year.

The film industry says online piracy of film and TV shows costs around £500m a year with illegal downloading responsible for a third of that figure.

They claim that puts thousands of jobs at risk.

Newsbeat spoke to Steve, a 25-year-old illegal downloader from Essex, who says he thinks the money film companies lose is "a drop in the ocean".
